Regie en Outsourcing.

In 2010, outsourcing of IT services is the rule rather than the exception. It is not so much a question of whether you as an organisation are going to outsource as what, when and with whom.

With such a foregone conclusion it is often forgotten what this means for the role of the internal organisation itself. After all, this changes from “doing it yourself” to “having it done.” The magic word in this context is “control.”

Outsourcing is not a sinecure. Your organisation is making ever greater use of external IT suppliers, whether noticed or not. On the other hand, you as an organisation have to deal with many internal clients, each with their own needs and specific issues. Sometimes they are similar issues, sometimes they are issues that are at odds with each other. The controlling organisation operates in this game of supply and demand: managing in order to obtain a clearer idea of demand, managing in order to ensure that suppliers deliver transparent services, striving to gain competitive advantages for your organisation.

All this demands a great deal from a controlling organisation. Of course if you as the controlling organisation wish to operate with the existing IT department, you will have to closely manage other skills, another way of working, another culture.
